Western Wall, The Kotel

The Western Wall, The Wailing Wall or Kotel is an ancient limestone wall in the Old City of Jerusalem. It is a relatively small segment of a far longer ancient retaining wall, known also in its entirety as the "Western Wall". The wall was originally erected as part of the expansion of the Second Jewish Temple by Herod the Great, and is part of the area known to Jews and Christians as the Temple Mount.  The Kotel is widely accepted to be the most holy place in Judaism.  People travel from all over the world to visit and pray here.  It is traditional for people to visit here before significant life events and many observant Jews come here on a daily or weekly basis to practice their faith.  Walk with me as I visit and leave a prayer in the cracks of the wall along with the hundreds of others so carefully placed there.
