On our tour of the Path to Peace, by chance we met a Lone Soldier from Brooklyn. My old stomping ground!  Every year, young men and women from around the world come to serve in the Israeli army far away from their families and communities - as a demonstration of their connection with and commitment to Israel. On average there about 6,000 Lone Soldiers a year volunteering in the IDF.  There are some great support services for Lone Soldiers including the Lone Soldier Center in Memory of Michael Levin.
